Glimpse into the future

About Glimpse Project

Glimpse is a new and exciting project that is focused on bringing articles, news and scientific works from around the world to all Levana Students. We want our students to have a peak into latest Tech Innovations and Scientific Breakthroughs. Articles might cover anything from the latest advancements in robotics engineering to a new way of explaining Quantum Theory. We want Glimpse to inspire Levana students and expand their potential by allowing them to read about many of the incredible things that highly innovative people achieve around the World each day.

Real-life Transformer changes from robot to car and back again

Posted on 04/05/201804/05/2018

There are a few different things people look for in a car. Some look for high performance. Others favor fuel economy. And some just want it to transform into a 4-meter (13-foot) robot. In a surprising turn of events for the last camp, the dream of owning an automotive automaton is now a step closer […]

Implant gives early cancer warning by growing an artificial mole on your skin

Posted on 20/04/201820/04/2018

The earlier cancer is detected, the better the outlook for the patient. Unfortunately, cancer is a crafty foe and does a good job of hiding its presence until it’s too late. Now, researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a novel early warning system for four common types of cancer. An implant keeps watch for elevated […]

10 teams advance to final stage of $20 million Carbon XPrize

Posted on 10/04/201810/04/2018

The notion of turning C02 into something useful sounds wildly futuristic, but scientists are already making promising strides in the area. Launched in 2016, the Carbon XPrize is a US$20 million competition aimed at speeding things along, inviting competing teams to develop technologies that can capture and convert these emissions into products of value. Organizers have today […]

$10 million XPrize contest looks to usher in the era of real-life robotic avatars

Posted on 20/03/2018

XPrize contests are nothing if not examples of big picture thinking. Following multi-million dollar competitions to put private spacecraft on the moon, reimagine C02 and tackle illiteracy in the developing world, the organization has just announced a new initiative to accelerate the development of real-life robotic avatars, which could one day be used to carry out tasks like caregiving or […]

The walking, crawling, rolling, jumping, swimming “millirobot” that could carry drugs through your body

Posted on 02/02/201802/02/2018

There are plenty of designs for tiny robots that could one day be swimming and crawling through our bodies to deliver drugs, patch up wounds or clean out clogged arteries. But most of these are limited to one method of movement and might not handle complex terrain. Now, a team from the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems […]

3D metal printing: 100x faster, 10x cheaper

Posted on 04/01/201804/01/2018

Desktop Metal – remember the name. This Massachussetts company is preparing to turn manufacturing on its head, with a 3D metal printing system that’s so much faster, safer and cheaper than existing systems that it’s going to compete with traditional mass manufacturing processes. We’ve been hearing for years now about 3D printing and how it’s […]

Nanoparticles home in on cancer stem cells in promising new therapy

Posted on 07/12/2017

Nanoparticle drug delivery systems are a hot area in medical research at the moment. The ability to engineer particles that can enter a human body and transport a drug directly to a targeted cell is revolutionizing how medicine is delivered. A team of researchers from the University of Illinois has now created a new nanoparticle […]

Human stem cells get paraplegic rats moving again

Posted on 27/11/201727/11/2017

There are some paraplegic rats that are now able to walk again, or that are at least coming close to doing so, and it’s thanks to human stem cells. The cells essentially helped bridge a gap that scientists had introduced in the animals’ spinal cords. Led by Dr. Shulamit Levenberg, a team from the Technion-Israel […]

One small backflip for a robot is one giant leaping backflip for humankind

Posted on 22/11/201722/11/2017

Something that often bothers me about sci-fi is the loner inventor trope. A guy in a garage builds a robot, or AI, or frequently both that are somehow decades beyond the technology of his day, and all the wild implications of his vast technological leap are the fuel for the next two and a half hours of […]

Richard Browning sets new speed record in Iron Man-style jet suit

Posted on 20/11/201720/11/2017

Remember Richard Browning, the UK-based fitness freak who built himself an Iron Man-style flight suit, complete with jet thrusters on his arms and back? A suit that required absolutely incredible upper body strength to manage, since you’re constantly pushing down against the thrust with your arms? Well, he’s just muscled his way into the Guinness Book […]
